Glasses & Contacts Q & A

When do I need glasses?

If you’ve never needed vision correction, you might not realize that you need glasses now. Vision changes generally happen slowly and gradually over a period of many years. There are a few general signs that it’s time to see your Clewner & Kelly Eye Center eye doctor about glasses, including:

  • Squinting or straining to see
  • Using more light to read
  • Chronic headaches
  • Tired feeling eyes
  • Decreased night vision
  • Struggling to see the computer, tablet, or phone screen
  • Halos around lights
  • Decrease in color intensity
  • Wavy looking vision

As you age, your eye health can change gradually, and this may also contribute to the need for glasses. For example, you may develop cataracts and need to wear glasses for the first time. Schedule an exam as soon as possible if you’re having any of these issues.

When are contact lenses right for me?

Most patients who opt for contact lenses are already experienced eyeglasses wearers who want either a complete change or a part-time alternative for their glasses.  If you’re looking for improved peripheral vision, want a completely unobscured viewing field, or simply prefer the aesthetics of contact lenses over glasses, contacts could be a good choice for you.

But, it’s important to know that it may take a little time to adjust to contacts. The lenses sit directly on your eye, so being comfortable with lens insertion and removal is essential. Many patients who choose contacts soon say that they offer superior comfort, so it’s usually an easy adjustment.

If you do choose contacts, your eye doctor may recommend having a pair of glasses as a back-up. If you ever develop an eye infection, corneal abrasion, or other type of eye damage, contacts may temporarily be too uncomfortable or unsafe to use so it’s good to have a plan B for those situations.

How do I get a glasses or contacts prescription?

Your eye doctor at Clewner & Kelly Eye Center performs a comprehensive eye exam to assess your eye health as well as your vision correction needs. A contact lens exam takes a bit longer than a glasses exam because your ophthalmologist takes a separate set of measurements to ensure the lenses fit your eyeball curvature properly.

Clewner & Kelly Eye Center has all the latest selections in eyeglass frames, lenses, and contacts to make it easy to get just what you need. Call the office or click on the appointment booking tool for glasses and contacts in Boca Raton now.
